The Value of LCD TVs
Aside from their obvious aesthetic value, LCD TVs are much more practical in the home than CRT (tube-style) televisions. They take up a smaller footprint, and thus use up less floor space in the room. Also, LCD TVs are lighter and easier to move around when cleaning or redecorating.

This screen also has a pixel resolution of 1440 x 900 -- which qualifies it to display 720p HDTV images. A built-in comb filter reduces digital artifacts produced by signal noise, making for more detailed images.

Full-Featured DVD Player
The 23HLV87 includes an integrated DVD player compatible with several disc formats: DVD Video, CD-R, CD-RW, VCD and DVD-R. This player is also DivX home theater certified, which means it display popular Internet video formats, such as DivX, AVI, and MPEG4. Similarly, MP3 and WMA-encoded music files recorded to disc will play nicely.

An interesting feature of this player is Digital Picture Zoom, which allows you to select and magnify an area of either freeze-frame or motion video.

Connections
The set has a built-in digital television tuner, so out of the box it can receive digital broadcast ATSC signals and QAM signals used by most digital cable providers. It also has a built-in 181-channel NTSC tuner, so it can also accept traditional analog signals. It is also capable of the following connections: HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface): 1 ColorStream HD component video inputs: 1 S-video: 1 RF: 1 PC input: D-sub 15 with L/R audio Digital audio out: 1 optical Headphone jack: 1 RCA video inputs: 2 rear

Audio
The 23HLV87's bottom-mount speakers deliver stereo sound, but for those with a 5.1 surround sound system, the 23HLV87 outputs Dolby Digital and dts digital audio from the DVD player through an optical port. A front headphone jack allows you to watch TV without disturbing those around you--perfect for late-night viewing. Toshiba's StableSound feature maintains television volume within a preset range regardless of the source signal. This is an extremely useful feature when transitioning between a quiet television program and a very loud commercial advertisement or when changing channels.

Toshiba 23HLV87 23-Inch LCD HDTV with DVD Player user reviews

"I don't watch TV very often, so my primary reason for purchasing this was to save space by having a computer monitor that is also a TV and a DVD player. It was simple to hook up to my computer and worked without making any adjustments. I hooked up an antenna to the TV and channels come in very clear without cable or satellite service. The DVD player works well. I am very happy with this and am enjoying the extra space I've gained by getting rid of my old TV and DVD player. "

"I had a hard time finding a good HDTV with a built in DVD player of any size. This is the largest one I could find that could also be wall mounted and would look "right". I've only had this one day, but its performing very well and pulls in all of the analog and digital channels in my area over the air. The picture is very good and there is good control over aspect ratio, color saturation and such. Videophiles might say the picture isn't good enough but it is for my bedroom.

The only drawbacks I can find: no way to punch in a decimal point when entering a station, for instance 29.1. At least I can't figure it out. Info display doesn't display the program descriptions that are available on HD channels. I get these on my Sony, but can't get them on this TV.

With all the connectivity options, outputs and control, this is a very good TV for now and the future. I really don't think you can go wrong. "

"I just got this a week ago, the picture quality is really worth it. The built-in DVD player is superb. So far, no complaints. Keep in mind that a 23 inch wide screen is suitable for a medium to small bedroom. I would have opted for a 26 inch screen, but I have space issues in this particular bedroom. "

"We have this TV installed in our Bedroom and it has worked well for us over the past two years. The picture quality is good and the sound meets our needs. In fact I have few complaints about the TV. One thing I don't like is that it automatically chooses the aspect ratio. You can't watch regular tv in widescreen like I can my Sony Plasma tv, but this is a minor issue. HD signals look great. "
